RPI Chairman Matt Strawn and RNC Committeeman Steve Scheffler Speak To Jackson County GOP
October 24 - Despite the cold and rainy weather, this past Thursday night Jackson County Republicans were treated with not one but two prominent guest speakers. Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Matt Strawn and Iowa RNC Committeeman Steve Scheffler spoke to a crowd of about 50 people at the Hurstville Interpretive Center in Maquoketa. Matt and Steve spoke about current legislative items both at the state and Federal level including the recent 10% state budget cut made by Gov. Culver and the Health Care Reform debate.
After Matt and Steve spoke, an auction was held to help raise funds for the local Party and a Central Committee meeting was held to discuss the upcoming Iowa Caucuses which will be held on Saturday, January 23rd and the County Convention which will be held on Saturday, March 6th. More information about both the caucus and convention will be on this website as soon as it becomes available.
At the meeting, the Jackson County Republican Central Committee also ratified a county platfform that was drafted by a Special Platform Committee over this past year. The platform will serve as a reference for those attending the caucuses and submitting planks as well as provide a base starting point for the Platform Committee when constructing a platform for the County Convention. The platform ratified at the meeting is available for viewing on this website under the "Platform" Section.
Thanks to Matt and Steve and to everyone who attended on Thursday, your time and support is greatly appreciated!
